Weird Little Coloring Book, 2021

This coloring book was my first zine. I transformed 3 of my favorite paintings into coloring pages by tracing digital images with permanent marker and pen. I also created 6 new drawings which were done in my sketchbook style of drawing imperfect shapes and patterns. I have always been fond of bold lines and conspicuous shapes. I go to this drawing style as a coping mechanism for stress and a fun way to pass the time. I printed, folded, and stapled 50 original copies of my coloring book at home during the 2021 holiday season. These coloring books are printed on heavy cardstock with different neon-colored covers, making each one unique. This was a fun project that helped me get out of my post-Covid lockdown creative slump, and unknowingly helped guide my into the world of zines.
Women Appear
This collection is an ongoing group of related works that explore the female figure through the female gaze, and what it means to see oneself as a woman in art. In the story of Genesis, Eve did not feel ashamed of her naked body until she became aware of male spectators ("Nakedness was created in the mind of the beholder." -John Berger, Ways of Seeing, 1972). While the fruit armed her with knowledge and free will, it burdened her with the male gaze, and the unceasing knowledge that she is always being looked at by men. This collection aims for women to see themselves through a female gaze.
